Davell Crawford @ Rhino Jazz

_________________________ Davell Crawford at the Opéra-Théatre de Saint-Etienne, in partnership with Jazz à Vienne. The pianist, singer and organist from Louisiana presented "Tribute to Ray Charles", a concert which earned him the award for "best performance of 2005 in New Orleans". Admirably assisted by Chris Severin on bass, Jerôme E. Jennings on drums, Stephen J.Gladney on saxophone and Mauro Serri on guitar, he played the greatest titles of "Genius" in a very soulful way. The energy has arrived at the fingers. A sensual and animal groove did the rest. He is nicknamed "The Little Prince of New Orleans". He knows how to succeed wonderfully in the "crossover" which brings together two parallels, those of black music and that of white music. It is that, with him, the influences are assumed until the crispness. So he crossed paths with “Georgia on my mind” or “I got a woman” skidding skilfully towards all styles.
